Nunavut Arts and Crafts Festival 2011: Celebrate Canada
Dates: June 24, 2011 - July 4, 2011
Website: http://www.nacaarts.org
This year’s event will focus on emerging artists learning from Elders in the community. NACA will be choosing Master carvers to work on 6 larger pieces of art that will be auctioned off at a Dinner on the 2nd of July.
In this environment, emerging artists will be mentored through new experiences by Elder artists and other specialists attending the festival and available for questions.
NACA plans to offer mass workshops in collaboration with Canadian Craft Federation. The federation will be in attendance in Iqaluit to hold their AGM and have agreed to plan a mass workshop for the dates of July 2nd and 3rd. These workshops will have 5 instructors handling many different kinds of workshop mediums and will be open to the public to attend.

Nunavut Arts Festival was a great success! Some of the event highlights were a fur sale and country food taste testing as well as an Art Market. Great time!

I went there a long time ago, when we called it FROBISHER BAY. I saw all the amazing soap stone carvings, skins being dried, deliveries coming in by water. It was an amazing experience and I would love to go back. The pretty arctic wildflowers were in bloom and the kids played hockey in the streets until the wee hours of the morning.
